Online volunteering

Transform the World...from Your Desk!

Ever felt distressed by the deteriorating states of people across the planet, notably in developing countries, and desired to do something about it? Ever felt constrained by where you are, occupation and duties to do societal good in these nations? At the exact same time, irresolute to just contribute cash as a result of unaccountability?
virtual volunteering

I've across a lot of people who are facing the similar dilemma. World-wide, there are approximately 140 million volunteers (State of the World's Volunteerism Report 2011) who are actively working towards social good, yet there are many more like you who are interested in giving socially but lack workable volunteer platform which would satisfy their restraints and prerequisites. We conducted a small research to know this happening - actionable steps were taken by only 12% towards it, though 72% of young urban professionals want to do good. So ultimately they end up being unable to contribute to the cause closest to their heart.

Merely to offer an outlook: In India alone, there are far more than 2 million NGOs, essentially 1 NGO per 600 people, however the magnitude is quite high. Our research shows that most of the NGOs lack networks and professional skills like fundraising (~55%), sales & marketing (~45%), strategy preparation (~35%), grassroots-level strategy etc. required to stay effective. Because of this, we find that these NGOs cannot efficiently serve their markets and their social metrics are sub-best. Based on our work (LINK TO WEBSITE) with over 150 NGOs over the previous 2,5 years, we have seen that NGOs face two major problems: online volunteering india

1. Organizational efficiency: Skills and services demanded by NGOs to efficiently and effectively handle their organization. For ex advocacy, fundraising, finance etc.

2. Grassroots-degree impact: These NGOs are unable to satisfy their impact goals and therefore are constantly searching for capacity construction techniques to boost their impact.

These problems are experienced by NGOs - irrespective of cause their growth stage, place or access to resources.

These findings made my friends and me realize there is a clear difference between the demand and supply of professional pro bono services to NGOs, and encouraged us to setup an internet skill-established volunteering platform, Doing Great Guys. NGOs in India or Kenya post their live demands onto our online impact-creation platform and professionals can bid for those jobs and contribute their abilities and networks to support NGOs in societal impact.

One major for us has been that professionals supply the very best support to NGOs not by location established, weekend volunteering but by contributing their invaluable core skills learning.

So the next time you think about world issues and tips on how to contribute, just go on the internet and offer your own time plus skills. You can produce a difference in the lives of people on the other side of the world, actually out of your desk!
